Elmira Smith was born in December of 1865, in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Louis M. and Sarah Smith. In 1888, she married William Henry Sowers, son of Isaac and Ann Martin Sowers. They were the parents of 7 children: Conda Blane, Ada B., Alva Louis, John Emory, Edna Irene, Zelda D. and Effie Mae Sowers.
