Bio

Conda Blane Sowers was born May 31, 1888, in Mann Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, son of William Henry and Elmira Smith Sowers. On August 25, 1910, in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, he married Emma M. Tosten, daughter of George and Harriet Tosten. They were the parents of 5 children: Eugene T., Ruth Mae, Charles William, Mary M. and Mildred H. Sowers, the last two having died young. Conda passed away on December 26, 1981, in Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and was buried on the 29th in Antietam Church Cemetery there. From the WW1 Draft Registration Card, June 5, 1917: Conda Blane Sowers, 29, of South (Street?), Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, was born May 31, 1888, in Artemas, Pennsylvania. He was employed as a Laborer at 15 Waynesboro Foundry and Machine Company in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. He had a wife and three children, and no previous military service. He was medium in height, slender in build, with gray eyes and dark brown hair. He had "weak eyes." From the WW2 Draft Registration Card, April 24, 1942: Conda Blane Sowers, 53, of Ringgold Street Extension, Waynesboro, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, was born May 31, 1888, in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. The person who would always know his address was Mrs. Emma Sowers, of the same address. He was employed by Mr. Arthur Kauffman of the Corner of 5th and Potomac Streets, Waynesboro, Pennsylvania.
