Bio

William Henry Sowers was born in April of 1860, in Clear Spring, Washington County, Maryland, the son of Isaac and Ann "Nancy" Martin Sowers. On April 22, 1888, in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, he was married to Elmira Smith, daughter of Louis M. and Sarah Clingerman Smith. They were the parents of 7 children: Conda Blane, Ada B., Alva Louis, John Emory, Edna Irene, Zelda D. and Effie Mae Sowers. William passed away August 23, 1938, in Flintstone, Allegany County, Maryland, and was buried in Bennett Cemetery, Artemas, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Death notice for William Henry Sowers from the Cumberland Evening Times of August 23, 1938: "William H. Sowers, 78, near Flintstone."
