Bio

Eugene, called Gene, was the youngest of eight children born to Martin and Mary Simpkins, on a 160 acre farm in Montague County, Texas. His siblings were: Laura 1889, Joe 1891, Berl 1893, Arby 1896, Leedy 1900, Myrtle 1902 and Walter 1904. His parents died when he was just two years old, and by his late teens and early 20s he was on his own and working in the oil fields. On March 18, 1933 he married Estelle D Stewart in Nocona, Texas, and in 1943 they moved to Graham, Oklahoma, where he continued working in oil fields. Gene and Estelle had three children; Tommy, Kenneth and Gail. He lived to be 81 years old and died in Graham, Oklahoma, which had been his home since 1943.
