Rosenberg Herald, January 9, 1931: On Friday night, January 2nd, at his home near Guy, occurred the death of one of the county's most beloved citizens, Mr. Joe Susan. Mr. Susan was born August 15, 1878 near Nelsonville, Texas, in Austin County. In 1901, November 24, he was united in marriage to Miss Frances Kasparek, who survives him. In 1911, they moved to Fort Bend County and have since then lived here near Guy. In March 1930, the first symptoms of the disease which resulted in his death were noticed. All that was in the power of earthly hands was done but of no avail for death took him away from his loved ones on Friday night. Mr. Susan had reached the age of 52 years, 4 months, and 19 days. Deceased was a faithful member of the S.P.J.S.T. in Needville for many years. He was a true and loving husband and father, a loyal neighbor and friend. Mr. Susan is survived by his grief-stricken widow, Mrs. Frances Susan; four sons, Messrs. Alfred, Edward, Edwin, and Otto Susan; four daughters, Mrs. Ernest Huff, Misses Cecelie, Anna, and Vlasta Susan; a son-in-law, Mr. Ernest Huff; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Susen of Nelsonville; a brother, William Susen; three sisters, Mesdames Francis Schovajsa, Rosa Pilcik, and Anna Schimera; and host of other sorrowing relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Sunday morning, with Rev. J.R. Vilt of Needville officiating in the home and at the Needville Public Cemetery, in the presence of a large number of friends and relatives. The entire community extends heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family in the dark hours of their sorrow over the loss of father and husband. The Foerster Funeral Home of Rosenberg had charge of funeral arrangements.
