Herald Coaster, January 21, 2001: Edwin E. Susan, 87, passed away Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton after a brief illness. He was born Sept. 9, 1913 in the Guy area to Joe and Frances Susan. Services for Mr. Susan will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Needvile, with the Rev. Dan Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Needville Public Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to the church afterward. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan 21. 2001, at Garmany and Carden Chapel in Needville. Mr. Susan is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Winnifred Bosak Susan; daughter, Karen Rust and husband, Glenn E. Rust Sr., of San Marcos; brother, Otto Susan and friend, Margaret Trlicek; sister, Vlasta Frenzel and husband, Reuben; many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends; and loyal dog, Spotty. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Edwin Susan Jr. in 1960; sisters, Anna Balis, Gertrude Lile, and Celia Zettel; and brothers, Alfred Susan and Ed Susan. Mr. Susan retired from farming in 1978 and enjoyed gardening with much vigor until very recently. He also sold RVOS insurance part time for 28 years. He was a 50-plus year SPJST member where he continued to sell life insurance, and served as vice president of Lodge 81. He was involved in various other committees and volunteer activities over the years. Serving as pallbearers are Kenneth Stupka, Wayne Stupka, Joe Hebert, Morris Bosak, Alvin Blinka Jr., and Bill Whitehall. Honorary pallbearers are Craydon Bosak and John Font. In lieu of flowers, or for those wishing, donations may be made to the memorial fund of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church. (979) 793-4305.
