Son of John Young Walker and Christina Holman Husband of Edith Eliza Stagg, married 20 October 1924 in Pleasant Grove, Utah, Utah Husband of Merle Cloythield Christiansen, married 12 January 1964, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah History. I, Leonard. S. Walker, am the seventh child of John Young Walker and Chastina Holman. I arrived on Jan. 16, 1896, at Lindon, Utah in the old home on the farm. During my early childhood, I had curly hair and Mother let it grow long and combed it in ringlets. I begged to have it cut but with no results. The summer before entering school I told Dad I had to have it cut so he gave me twenty-five cents and off I went to Uncle Ben's who doubted the curls were to come off, but after showing him the money Dad gave me, off came the curls. He put them in a sack and gave them to me. Home I went as proud as could be and gave the sack to Mother who broke into tears when she saw her little boy all grown up. Soon after this time in the year 1902, I remember riding on a load of brick my Dad was hauling to build a new four-room school where the present Lindon School now stands. It was there I completed my first seven grades of school. I continued my studies at Pleasant Grove in the building which is now the Third Ward Chapel. There I completed the eighth grade and four years of high school. I graduated in the spring of 1914 with six other students. This is the smallest class ever to graduate. My boyhood days were spent working on the farm and going regularly to church with my parents and brothers and sisters. For recreation in the winter, groups of boys and girls would go sleigh riding in a bob-sleigh with a team of horses with bells on, pulling the sleigh. In the summer it was hay-wagon parties. One of the best recreation spots was the Ward amusement hall on Lindon Hill where he had "middle-sized" dances once a month for ages twelve to sixteen. Here we learned to mix and dance with one another and many a good time we had. The music consisted of a horn, fiddle, and piano. I used a saddle horse and buggy to do my courting. It was in this manner I met and courted Edith Eliza Stagg for about two years. During this time I fell in love with her and we were married at a young age on Oct. 20, 1914, by bishop A. L. Cullimore. Our first home was a two-room house in what is now North Orem. The boundaries for the Lindon Ward were from Pleasant Grove to Provo Canyon Road and from the lake to the mountains. In September 1915 on a Sunday I was spending the afternoon leisurely at home when a message was sent to me to report at the church-house. It was a ward conference and the ward was to be divided and to my surprise, I was sustained as the ward clerk for the new ward. I didn't serve long in this capacity for we moved back to Lindon Ward to run the farm for my father who moved to Pleasant Grove. Soon after this, I was made an Elder, it was then I took my lovely wife to the Temple and were sealed and had our two children sealed to us. I have served as assistant and superintendent in the M.I.A. for several years, and also in the Sunday School superintendency. I was ordained a Seventy then I was called to serve as first counselor to Bishop Charles Cobbley and after he was released I was called to be the Bishop of Lindon Ward. A short time after being released as Bishop, I served on the High Council, served for five years or more, and released I was sustained as President of the High Priest's Quorum of Timpanogos Stake. At present, I am the first assistant in the High Priest's group, Ward Teacher, and Chairman of the Genealogical Committee of the Lindon Ward. When I bought the family farm, Father told me that there had always been a just tithing paid on things from the farm and that I was to do the same and by so doing, the Lord would bless us. One of the highlights of my church activities was having the privilege of attending three special meetings in the Salt Lake Temple in the Prisethood Room. At one of these meetings, the Quorum of the Twelve prepared and blessed the Sacrament and I can assure you that the inspiration and spirit of the Lord was felt at those meetings. My helpmates, the wife and family have always supported me to the fullest extent in all my callings and I know there is real happiness when you are doing your calling to the best ability. My civic activities have been in serving as a Board Member, Secretary, Vice President, and President of the Pleasant Grove Livestock Assn., for over thirty years. I served on the Lindon Town Board two different times and was a member and President of the Lindon Treshing Machine Co. I also served on the North Union Irrigation Co., and Provo Bench Canal Co. as Board Member and superintendent, and am President of both companies at present. I am also a member of the Utah County Water Board. Along with my civic and church duties, I enjoy participating in horseback riding, baseball playing, and ice skating. I also enjoy watching football, basketball and the fights. My life has been more blessed than some- with a lovely wife and fifteen wonderful children and fine sons-in-law and daughters-in-law. We have 54 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Our family group at present numbers 91 living, therefore I feel that I have been greatly blessed. Edith passed away on 21 December 1962 in Lindon, Utah, and was buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. I remarried Merle C. Christiansen, on 12 January 1964. By Leonard S. Walker
