Daughter of John Young Walker and Chastina Holman Wife of Thomas Nelson, Fenton, married Nov 30, 1910, in Salt Lake Temple, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah History. Ethel Walker was the fourth child of John Y. Walker and Chastina Holman. She was born in the Pleasant Grove Second Ward, now known as Lindon, on the farm now owned by her brother, Leonard S. Walker, on Nov. 28, 1886. She went to school in Lindon until she was in the seventh grade when she attended the Pleasant Grove District School in 1902. She graduated from the eighth grade in June 1904 and went to High School in the first high school started in Pleasant Grove. She taught school at Lindon for one year. Ethel was a very good student. She always took a very active part in the Church organizations, teaching in Sunday Schpp; and working in the M.I.A. She lived with the James H. Walker family one winter while attending school at Pleasant Grove. Another winter she, her sister Elsie, and May Ricahrds roomed at the home of Mrs. Driggs. After leaving school she took a course in sewing, fancy work, and dressmaking from Mrs. McCabe. She was an excellent needlewoman and became very proficient in making her own wearing apparel. She also sewed for others and her pieces of fancy and embroidery work were beautiful and many. She became acquainted with Thomas Fenton when she was in school at Pleasant Grove. Ethel was married to him on Nov. 30, 1910, in the Salt Lake Temple. They have 5 children. Living in Lindon for a little over a year and then went to Lynndyl, Millard County where her husband worked in the machine shops, for the S.P.L.A. and S.L. Railroad Co. She lived there until August 1914 when they moved to Sevier County. Aug. 20, 1911, her first child was born at Lindon. There were no Church organizations at Lynndyl and Ethel, her husband, and Mr. & Mrs. H.W. Jacob and Mr. & Mrs. Lenard Mecham went to Leamington, using a hand-car for making the trip. They appointed her husband Presiding Elder over the Lynndyl Branch of the Leamington Ward and Ethel worked very hard in putting the organization into operation, together with her husband. April 15, 1914, another son was born, she was at her mother's home in Lindon. While her husband was Presiding Elder over the Austin Branch of Monroe North Ward, Ethel was President of the Primary Association. Feb. 28, 1918, a daughter was born at Austin, Sevier Co., Utah. Dec 20, 1919, she with her husband and children moved to Pleasant Grove to live where they bought a home. In the season of 1920, she kept the home and took care of the garden and orchard while her husband worked as an inspector for the National Canners Ass'n. Ethel worked in the Church organizations of the First Ward and was always sewing for her family and other people. In 1921 her husband worked for the State Board of Agriculture as an Inspector and was away from home a great deal of the time and Ethel took over and kept things going in his absence. Sept. 30, 1921, her fourth child was born, a son. In 1926 they sold their home and built a new one. She was very proud of her new home and worked unceasingly to make it a good home. Besides being a wonderful seamstress, she was a very good cook as many of her associates can testify. She was always making nice delicious things for her family. June 2, 1925, her fifth child was born, a son. Ethel was never quite well for several years. She was operated on at the L.D.S. Hospital on June 20, 1932, for stomach trouble and kept failing until July 26, 1932, when she passed away. She has gone to her reward which will be a lovely one, because she was a dutiful daughter, a wonderful woman, and a loving and devoted wife and mother. May our Heavenly Father reward her for so being.
