Bio

Son of John Young Walker and Christina Holman Married to Alberta McEwan, 8 June 1921, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah later divorced Married to Viola Harris Gillman, 16 June 1953, Evanston, Uinta, Wyoming I, Richard L. Walker (Dick) was born in (Lindon) Pleasant Grove, Utah, on Sept. 8., 1898, and attended grade school there; I also went to Pleasant Grove High School. Later, I filled a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northwestern States. On my return, I married Alberta McEwan on 8 June 1921. We had five children, three boys and two girls; the oldest boy died in infancy. We were later divorced. I lived on a farm in Lindon during the early part of my married life. Later, I bought and managed a Utah Oil Service Station connected with a grocery and hardware store. I am a great lover of fine riding horses. I owned several and enjoyed riding on the mountain to check on the range cattle. My hobby is fishing and hunting. I have never missed a season in forty years, going deer and elk hunting, and never miss shooting a deer. When I left Lindon I went to Dugway Proving Grounds at Dugway, Utah to work as an animal caretaker. It was interesting work as I loved to be with animals. I married Viola Gillman and together, we have fished in many states from Mexico to Northern Canada, and we have caught some of the big ones. We have a trailer house we take with us. We love to camp in the canyons by a running stream. We spend one week each summer at Lava Hot Springs in Idaho. We like the mineral baths. It is so quiet and peaceful there--just to rest and relax. We lived in Salt Lake City and for the past four years, I have worked at the Tooele Ordinance Depot for the Government and commuted each day which is the distance of thirty-five miles each day. We are both well and very happy. By Richard L. Walker
