------------------------- John Lee Stepan, age 63, of Austin, died October 12. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. October 14 at the Harrell Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass was at 10 p.m. Oct. 15 in St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with Reverend Msgr. Fred Bomar officiating. Burial was in Assumption Cemetery. John Lee was born in West on January 31, 1922, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Stepan, who preceded him in death. He attended public school in Tokio and graduated from West High School in 1939. While at Tokio and at West High School, he was an active basketball player. Upon graduation, he was awarded a basketball scholarship to the University of Texas, where he played during his freshman and sophomore years before being called with the Marine Reserve Unit at the University to serve in World War II. He served in the South Pacific. After his discharge he moved to Austin where he became affiliated with the Allen Shoe Store chain as manager. He managed stores in Lubbock, Houston, Austin, Dallas and Jackson, Mississippi before returning to Austin to manage the shoe department at Leon’s. He remained there until his death.
