Bio

A. J.(Jake) Clearman, 92, Former Coryell County commissioner for Precinct 3, died Thursday afternoon in a fire that destroyed his home in Oglesby. Funeral services for Mr. Clearman were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Lee's Funeral Home chapel in McGregor. Rev. Bland Kerby and Ref. Harold Bird officiated, and burial was in the Osage Cemetery. Mr. Clearman, a native of Llano, lived in Coryell County most of his life. He married Cora Clemons in Osage on Oct 25, 1909. He was a farmer and later worked for Coryell County. He was Precinct 3 county commissioner from 1944 through 1952. Since that time he had been engaged in ranching in the Oglesby area. He was a member of the First Baptist church of Oglesby. Surviving are his wife, Cora; four daughters, Mrs Lillian McMullen and Mrs. Carlee Hoover, both of Oglesby, Mrs Robbie Stoermer of Waco and Mrs. Mary Lou Lella of McGregor; four sons, Phillip Clearman of Gatesville, Jack Clearman of Laton, Calif., and Ray Clearman and Billy Clearman, both of McGregor; one sister Mrs. Charles Robinson of Moody; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. Mr. Clearman was preceded in death by a daughter, Mamie Alice Clearman, in 1915, and a son, Joe Bob Clearman, in 1943. The Gatesville Messenger - Feb. 23, 1978
