Bio

Funeral services for Mrs. J. B. Swift (Jennie), a long-time Coryell County resident, were held 2 pm Sunday in the First Baptist Church. She died last Friday in the local hospital. Rev. S.E. Tullock and Rev. G.L. Derrick conducted the funeral services and burial was in Restland Cemetery with Scott's in charge. She was born Jennie Katherine Clearman in Mississippi on December 24,1872 to Robert V. Clearman and Lucinda Mabry. She married Joe B. Swift on July 13, 1891 and they lived in the Osage Community from 1901 to 1948. They then resided in Waco for three years before moving to Gatesville in 1951. Her husband, Joe, passed away in 1953. Jennie was a member of the Christian Church. Survivors are five sons, Elmer Swift of Gatesville, Dee Swift of Waco, Robert Swift of Buckeye, AZ, Calvin Swift of Arlington, VA, and Euell Swift of Gatesville; four daughters, Mrs. G.O. Weeks of Waco, Mrs. W.H. Coleman of Ft. Worth, Mrs. R.C. Crowder of Maynard, IA, and Mrs. U.L. Rhoads of Gatesville. Also surviving are two brother, A.J. Clearman of Oglesby and Bob Clearman of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. Fannie Hallmark of Abilene and Mrs. Winnie Robertson of Moody, 18 grandchildren, and 38 grandchildren.
