Bio

Funeral services for Robert Lynn Lankford will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 1:30PM at the First Baptist Church of Childress with Rev.Chad King officiating. Burial will be in the Childress Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 21, 2011 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Robert Lynn Lankford was born on September 9, 1940 in Childress, Texas to Ollie and Francis Lankford. He was raised in the Lonnie-Olympus Community, and attended Childress High School where he graduated in 1959. On December 21, 1961 Robert married Joyce Collins. They were married over 50 years. Robert served in the United States Army from 1959-1962. After the Army, he worked for the United States Post Office, where he retired in 1992. He later worked for TDCJ until 2006. Robert had many hobbies, but he especially loved woodworking. It was his favorite pastime, and he was a perfectionist about his work. Around town, Robert was known as "the Bee-man" because of his other hobby as a beekeeper. Robert and Joyce have been long time members of the First Baptist Church of Childress where Robert served as a deacon. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and a daughter-in-law, Pam Arnn Lankford. He is survived by his wife, Joyce 2 Sons: Darwin Lankford and wife Tanya of Childress; Darrell Lankford and wife Sharlie of Childress; Daughter: Delyn Trevino of Childress Sister: Stella Mae Lankford of Amarillo; Son-in-law: Ruben Trevino, Jr. of Amarillo; 9 Grandchildren: Austin, Bethany,Dylon, Jonathan, Destinee, Devon, Matthew, Ciara, and Dacota; One great grandchild on the way;
