The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, February 4, 1915; pg. 5 LAWRENCE HAPPENS. (From The Locomotive. Married - At St. Stephens church (sic), January 12, 1915, Rev. Hahn officiating, Mr. Ferdinand Ostdiek and Rosa Schutte. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schutte and the groom is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Ostdiek. A little celebration was given at the home of the bride and the groom gave a dance at McCauley's hall in the evening. The happy couple immediately went to housekeeping on a farm west of Mt. Clare. ================== The Lawrence Locomotive (Lawrence, NE), Thursday, August 2, 1962; pg. 1 Ferdinand Ostdiek Dies at Age 72 Ferdinand Ostdiek, age 72, of Benkleman (sic), died Wednesday afternoon following an operation performed earlier that day. Funeral services will be at St. Joseph's Church, Benkleman (sic) on Saturday. He is survived by 3 sons Walter of Denver, Colo., Louis of McCook and J. D. of the armed forces and six daughters, Mrs. Lorraine Stevens of McCook, Mrs. Irene Reining, Mrs. Irma Johnson, Mrs. Kathleen Hamm of Benkleman (sic), Mrs. Yvonne Eggers of Bird City, Kansas and Mrs. Roberta O'Leary of St. Francis, Kansas. Also 4 sisters, Mrs. Martin Brockman, Mrs. Wm. Hoelting, Mrs. Harold Schroer of Lawrence and Mrs. Richard Rempe of Superior. Five brothers, Lawrence Ostdiek, Ernest Ostdiek, Hubert Ostdiek and Clarence Ostdiek of Lawrence and Alphonse Ostdiek of Coos Bay Oregon. He is preceded in death by his wife Rose, and three sons, Gerald, Alvin and Raymond. ================== The Lawrence Locomotive (Lawrence, NE), Thursday, August 9, 1962; pg. 1 Ferdinand Ostdiek Obituary Funeral services for Ferdinand Ostdiek were held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Benkleman (sic), Nebr. Saturday, August 4, at 9:00 a. m. Msgr. L.L. Manderville was celebrant at the Solemn Requiem High Mass. Father Joseph Mroczkowski of Trenton was Deacon and Father Joseph Krob of Wray, Colo. was Sub-deacon. Interment was made in the Benkleman (sic) cemetery (sic). Pall bearers were six son-in-laws, J. W. Stevens, Al Reining, Paul O,leary (sic), Paul Ham, Orval Johnson and John Eggers. Mr. Ostdiek had suffered heart attack several weeks ago and had spent two weeks in the hospital but was recuperating nicely until an emergency operation was performed last Wednesday morning. In the afternoon he suffered a coronay (sic) attack and he died a couple of hours later in the Benkleman (sic) Hospital. Ferdinand John, son of Chris Ostdiek and Sophia (Stritt) Ostdiek was born at Lawrence, Nebr. on February 14, 1891 and died at Benkleman, Nebr. on August 1, 1962 at the age of 71 years, 5, months and 17 days. He grew to manhood in the Lawrence community, He was united in marriage to Rose Schutte on January 12, 1915 at St. Stephens Catholic Church. They located on a farm south of Lawrence where they lived until 1920 when they moved to a farm near Indianola. In 1941 the family moved to a farm south of Benkleman (sic). Following the death of his wife in 1953, Mr. Ostdiek moved to Benkleman (sic) which was his home up to the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his wife Rose, Gerald who died at the age of 4 years. Alvin died in 1942 at the age of 20 and Raymond. age 15, passed away in 1947. Two daughters, and 4 sons passed away in infancy. He is survived by three sons, Walter of Denver, Colo., Louis of McCook and J. D presently of the armed forces; six daughters, Mrs. Lorraine Stevens of McCook. Mrs. Irene Reining, Mrs. Irma Johnson, Mrs. Kathleen Ham of Benkleman (sic), Mrs Roberta O'Leary of St. Francis, Kansas; four sisters Mrs. Martin Brockman, Mrs. Wm. Hoelting, Mrs. Harold Schroer of Lawrence and Mrs Richard Rempe of Superior: five brothers Lawrence. Ernest, Hubert and Clarence of Lawrerne and Alphonse of Coos Bay, Oregon. Among the many relatives and friends attending the funeral were the following from this community. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Brockman, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hoelting, Richard Hoelting, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Hoelting, Lawrence Ostdiek. Miss Agnes Ostdiek, Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Mazour, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Pavelka. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ostdiek, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Ostdiek, Julene and Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Schroer and Dianne, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lemke, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ostdiek, Karen, Phyllis and Mary, George Rempe Sr., George Rempe Jr., and Mrs. Frank Pohlmeier..
