Bio

Major League Baseball Player. Born in Palacios, Texas, he was a right-handed pitcher making his debut for the Chicago White Sox on June 2, 1934. For five seasons, he played with the Chicago White Sox, until he had to leave the game after he lost his right leg in a hunting accident in 1938. He ended his career with 36 wins, 23 loss, 36 complete games 5 shutouts, 2 saves, 196 strikeouts and a 3.71 earned run average. In 1946, he made a comeback as a winning pitcher in the minor leagues and his life inspired a film "The Stratton Story" (1949), starring Jimmy Stewart as Monty Stratton. He died at age 70 in Greenville, Texas.
