COUVILLON, IVY JEANSONNE DEATHS Advocate, The (Baton Rouge, LA) - Saturday, December 16, 2000 Born Aug. 7, 1906, in Plaucheville, she died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at 2:15 p.m. at Magnolia Place Nursing Home, Baton Rouge. She was the wife of Alvin B. Couvillon Sr., former superintendent of schools in West Baton Rouge Parish and principal of Devall Elementary School and Port Allen High School. She was one of 10 children born to Avit and Celcina Jeansonne of Plaucheville. Preceded in death by her husband, Alvin B. Couvillon Sr.; a son, Alvin B. Couvillon Jr.; parents; eight brothers, Forrest, Clemile, Lewis, Ruby, Harris, Edwin, Sam and Nolan; and a sister, Corrine Guilbeau. She was very active in civic and religious organizations. She was president of Devall School Parents Teachers Association for five years in the '30s. The Erwinville Home Demonstration Club held its organizational meeting in her home in Erwinville in 1920 and she was elected the first president of the club. Later, after moving to Port Allen, she became an active member of the Port Allen Home Demonstration Club. Her membership in Home Demonstration clubs spanded for 70 years and she held many offices in these clubs. She was a member of West Baton Rouge Garden and Civic Club, Holy Family Church and Catholic Daughters of the Americas at Holy Family. She loved people, loved to travel and was a fun-loving person. She will be missed by her children and their spouses, sons, Henry and Betty Couvillon, Brusly, Ronald and Ione Couvillon, Port Allen, a daughter, Barbara and Roy Hotard, Port Allen, and daughter-in-law, Natalie Roulet Couvillon, Gibsonia, Pa., widow of Alvin Couvillon Jr.; 21 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. Visiting at Holy Family Catholic Church, Port Allen, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Saturday, celebrated by the Rev. Henry Vavasseur. Entombment in Greenoaks Memorial Park Mausoleum, Baton Rouge. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church Jubilee Campaign, 913 N. Jefferson Ave., Port Allen, LA 70767. Wilbert Funeral Home, Port Allen, in charge of arrangements.
