Ronald James Couvillon, a native of Erwinville and a resident of Port Allen, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He was 76. Survived by his wife of 55 years, Theresa Ione Vavasseur Couvillon; children, Kenny and Dawn Couvillon Fontenot, Daryl and Lori Treuil Couvillon, Dwane Couvillon, Douglas and Bonnie Durnin Couvillon, Don Couvillon; grandchildren, Daniel and Lyndsey Fontenot, Kristen and Blake Saucier, Josh and Sharena Fontenot, Chase Couvillon and Amanda Hathaway, Kacey and Devin Allain, Dillon Couvillon, Jamie and Luke Gehbauer, Jennifer and Todd Bougher, Jeanine and Josh Russo; great-grandchildren, Brycelyn, Presleigh, Kennan and Adler Fontenot, Alaina Saucier, Maddie Fontenot, Kaelynn and Jared Hathaway, Leilynn and Emerie Gehbauer, Hudson and Gianna Russo, Nash and Jetta Bougher; and sister, Barbara Hotard. Ronald was welcomed into heaven by his great-grandchildren, Ava and Jacob Saucier; parents, Alvin and Ivy Jeansonne Couvillon; and brothers, Alvin Couvillon Jr. and Henry Couvillon. An outgoing man, Ronald never met a stranger and was always ready with a joke. He was an Eagle Scout, lettered in basketball, football, baseball, track and was state champion in boxing at Port Allen High School. A graduate of LSU, he was a lifelong architect. Ronald married Ione, his high school sweetheart, and together they raised five children. They enjoyed traveling around North America and to other continents. A 4th Degree Honorary Knight of Columbus and past grand knight, he was an usher at Holy Family Church and enjoyed coaching youth basketball for many years. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Verly Polk, Hamah Young and the staff at Our House for Respite for their tender loving care. Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with Mass of the Resurrection following at Holy Family Catholic Church in Port Allen. Entombment will be in Greenoaks Mausoleum, Baton Rouge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ava and Jacob Saucier Memorial Scholarship Fund at Holy Family School, 335 N.
