Alvin B Or Prof Couvillon Sr, 89 DEATHS Advocate, The (Baton Rouge, LA) - Monday, July 4, 1994 Died 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 1, 1994, at Convention Street Nursing Center. He was 89, a native of Long Bridge, and a resident of Port Allen. He was a retired superintendent of West Baton Rouge Parish Schools. Visiting was held at Wilbert Funeral Home, Port Allen, 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Visiting at funeral home 8 to 9:45 a.m. Monday. Religious services at Holy Family Catholic Church, Port Allen, at 10 a.m. Monday, conducted by Father David Vavaseur and Father Henry Vavaseur. Entombment in Greenoaks Memorial Park Mausoleum at a later date. Survived by wife, Ivy Jeansonne Couvillon, Port Allen; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Roy Hotard Jr., Port Allen; two sons and three daughters-in-law, Henry and Betty M. Couvillon, Brusly, Ronald and Ione V. Couvillon, Port Allen, and Natalie R. Couvillon, Pittsburgh, Pa.; a brother, Murray Couvillon, Lafayette; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by a son, Alvin Couvillon Jr.; parents, Edward and Marie Tassin Couvillon; a brother, James Couvillon; and a sister Sybil Dufour. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. He obtained his bachelor of science degree from LSU, 1939, received a M.Ed. from LSU, 1950, was assistant principal at Bordelonville High School, 1927, principal at Erwinville Elementary School, 1927-1929, principal of Devall Elementary School, 1929-1941, assistant principal and coach of Port Allen High School, 1943-1949, principal of the Port Allen High School, 1949-1956, superintendent of West Baton Rouge Parish Schools, 1956-1967, past president of Parish Teachers Association, past president of Four Parish Education Association, member of the Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2875 and past president of Port Allen Lions Club. He organized the first Boy Scout Troop No. 126 in Erwinville in 1941. He was executive field director of Istrouma Area Council Boy Scouts, 1941-1942. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart Association, the Cancer Society or the Nim Pecquet Holy Family School Foundation.
