Bio
Elizabeth was born in June 1842, in Ohio, daughter of a father born in Indiana and a mother born in Ohio. She died Oct. 28, 1901, probably while the family lived in Maple Grove Twp., Barron County, aged 59 years and 4 months, and was buried in Wayside Cemetery. There is no gravestone for her beside that of her husband. On Oct. 7, 1861 Elizabeth married David Montgomery Cox at Brooklyn, Poweshiek Co., Iowa. David was born Jan. 18, 1838, in Stormstown, Centre Co., Penn., son of parents also born in that state. He died July 17, 1917, at Barron, aged 79 years, 5 months and 29 days, and was buried there in Wayside Cemetery. His gravestone is inscribed "David M. Cox 1838-1917 Co. E. 4th Iowa Vol. Cav. 1861-1864." Their children were: Laura N., b. 17 Jun 1862 Sylvester Oliver, b. 27 Dec 1865 Walter C., b. 10 Mar 1868 Harry E., b. 12 Feb 1869 Frank E., b. 23 Sep 1870 Charles R., b. 24 Dec 1871 Matilda E., b. 25 Dec 1872 Isabelle Marva, b. 23 Feb 1875 Christine A., b. 16 Jan 1877 Forest W., b. 18 Jun 1881 OBITUARY Mrs. Elizabeth Cox, wife of D. M. Cox, died at her home in Maple Grove, Oct. 28, aged 59 years and 4 months. The funeral was held Wednesday, the service being conducted by Rev. Wm. Bell, interment was made in the Barron cemetery. The deceased was born in Ohio in 1842; she moved while a child to Iowa, where she was married to Mr. Cox. in 1862. They came to Barron county about 25 years ago and were among the earliest settlers of the county. Deceased leaves a husband and ten children to mourn her death.
