[Friday, June 19, 1908 in the Barron County Shield, Barron, Wisconsin.] * * * * SYLVESTER OLIVER COX Sylvester Oliver Cox died at his home in Maple Grove Saturday, June 14, 1908, after an illness of nearly four months. The subject of this sketch was born in Sauk county, Wis., December 23, 1865, where he lived until six years of age, then moved with his parents to the state of Iowa coming to Wisconsin in the year 1876 where he has since resided. He was united in marriage to Margaret McClanathan Sept. 9, 1898. Three children were born to this union one dying in infancy. His was a long hard struggle against disease but the hand of death was relentless, and he quietly breathed his last at the silent hour of midnight June 14, 1908. His sufferings were intense but the weary vigil, the cheerless days and weary nights are over and his painrocked body is at rest. All was done that could be done, by medical aid and kind friends but to no avail. Hard indeed it is for us to understand why one in the very prime of life should be thus removed, but what we know not now we shall know when the books are opened and the veil is lifted and what is now so dark and mysterious shall be made plain. Deceased is survived by a wife, two children, and aged father, five brothers and four sisters. Funeral services were held at the home at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning Rev. Wm. Bell in charge, and interment was made in Barron cemetery. A large number of friends were present to pay their last respects to the departed. A kind neighbor and useful citizen has gone from our midst. CARD OF THANKS To the many friends, especially the young men who so kindly assisted us during the sickness and death of our loved one we extend our heartfelt thanks. D. M. Cox and Family.
