Bio

Sturgis --- Edward Albert Karrels died unexpectedly at his home in Sturgis Monday evening. Born Aug. 29, 1890, in Meade County, Karrels received his education in Sturgis and Conception, Mo. He ranched in Bear Butte Valley from 1912 to 1947 and had lived in Sturgis since that time. Karrels was married Nov. 4, 1912, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Gretchen Wieland. She survives him. Other survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Burnham of Sturgis; three brothers, Henry, Clem and Vic, all of Sturgis; five sisters, Mrs. Tillie Johnson, Richmond, Calif.; Mrs. Margaret Pierce, Rapid City; Mrs. Clara Poss, Mrs. Agnes Bruch and Louise Karrels, all of Sturgis; and two grandchildren. One son preceded him in death. Requiem high mass will be offered Friday at 10 a.m. in the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis. Rev. Paul Daum will be the celebrant. Rosary services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the F. O. Jolley Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Sturgis Catholic Cemetery. --- From The Rapid City Journal - September 3, 1958
