Whitney Messenger Friday, January 23, 1953 FORMER WHITNEY MAN PASSES AWAY IN WACO John D. Griffith, 96, an early settler of this community, died at his home in Waco at 4:30 a.m. Monday. Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at Compton's Chapel in Waco, with Dr. E.D. Dunlap officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery at Whitney. Mr. Griffith had been a resident of Waco for many years. He is survived by two sons, E. L. of Waco and J. L. of Breckenridge; one daughter, Mrs. C. Carson of Lubbock; two sisters, Mrs. R. T. Hunter and Miss Kate Griffith, both of Waco, 53 granchildren and great-grandchildren.
