John William Fitzgibbon was born on Dec 4, 1988 In Kansas City Missouri to John C. and Anna Catherine Hergenroeder Fitzgibbon. He died at the age of 74, at his home on the family farm in Bonner Springs, Leavenworth County, Kansas on April 12, 1963. His wife, Josephine McCaffrey Fitzgibbon, whom he married on June 17, 1913, was by his side. Their only son, John Edward Fitzgibbon, had arrived by private airplane from Texas, with his wife Betty Jean and the two grandchildren, John Edward and Janice, only minutes before his death. A Rosary was recited on Sunday evening, April 14, and the funeral Mass was officiated by Rev. Father Moriarty on April 15, 9:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Bonner Springs. Interment was at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas. The Paulbearers were Clarence Kelly, Clarence Schlagel, Clarence Porter, James Ingram, Eugene O. Reynolds and Raymond Morrow. From 1924 until he retired to the farm in 1942, John William Fitzgibbon and his wife Josephine owned and operated the Fitzgibbon High Grade Grocery Store in Kansas City, Missouri. Their son, John, a student at Rockburst High school. harvested wheat at the family and neighboring farms during the summers. After their son's graduation from KU and then Cumberland University Law School, John and Josephine retired from the grocery business and returned to the family farm. At the time of his death, John William fitzgibbon and Josephine owned and operated a dairy, cattle and crop farm, located 5 miles west of Bonner Springs. He was the Director and Vice- President of Marketing for Milk Producers Association for 14 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bonner Springs and was well known as a kind, generous and honorable man. His granddaughter from Texas will forever remember her summers on the farm and the work ethic and values she learned from her Grandparents and their neighbors and friends.
