Bio

Joseph Edmond Fitzgibbon was the first born son of John C. Fitzgibbon and Anna Catherine Hergenroder Fitzgibbon. He was born on September 13, 1882 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. His parents owned a Hotel and Saloon from 1880 to 1892. The family purchased a crop and horse farm in Lexington, Johnson County, Kansas, in 1890, where they lived for several years. Eventually, John and Anna purchased the well-known Dr. Belt Farm in Labette County, close to Parsons and Oswego. By 1910 Joseph, age 25, was hired as a laborer on a farm in Lincoln, Brown, South Dakota. He was living with the Dunkel Family. He later homesteaded in South Dakota. On February 11, 1931, he married Angelina Barbara Audy-Miller in King, Washington. Joseph and Angie were living in Beryn, Alberta, Canada, in 1937. Eventually they settled in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Angie passed away in Kelowna, British Columbia in 1958. Joseph attended, the Fitzgibbon Family Reunion held at the Lesslie home in Overland Park, Kansas City, Missouri in the summer of 1958. He visited the Bonner Springs, leavenworth County, Kansas farm of his brother John William and wife Josephine. Their granddaughter, Janice, who was 11 years of age, still remembers how much fun Uncle Joe had riding her horse. Joe had a wonderful time visiting and sharing stories with his four remaining siblings, their children and grandchildren. Joseph loved to play Bridge and had a large group of loyal friends. He was successful in his business ventures and he was generous to his family upon his death. Joseph Edmond Fitzgibbon was diagnosed with cancer in 1975 and passed away on April 25, 1976 in Kelowna, Central Okanagan Regional District, British Columbia, Canada. Joseph was laid to rest beside his wife, Angie, at Kelowna Memorial Park. Please note: Edmond Firzgibbon, the brother of John C. Fitzgibbon and uncle of Joseph Edmond Fitzgibbon is buried in the family plot of John C. Fitzgibbon at Mount St. Mary's Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri. The 1887 death certificate states his name is Edward. His headstone has his legal name which was Edmond.
