The Lakelander, Wednesday, April 4, 2001 Reverend Douglas O. Shelley 1924 - 2001 Victoria - Reverend Douglas Otto Shelley, 76, of Victoria, passed away on Friday, March 9. Funeral services were held on Monday, March 12, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels, in Victoria, with Reverends Doug Shelley, Ray Robinson, Eddie Slayton, Lloyd Wilson and Jim Shamburger officiating. Military honors, under the auspices of VFW, DAV, CWV, Marine Corps League, American Legion, the Military rder of the Purple Heart, and the Crossroads Ex-POWs were at Memorial Park Cemetry. Mr. Shelley was born on June 13, 1924, in Whitney, to the late Joseph and Fannie Shelley. He retired from ministry after 40 years, having pastored locally at one timeat Missionary Baptist Church, in Whitney. He was a veteran of WWII and a Baptist. He was preceded in death by one sister - Rosa Mae Barone; and one brother - Hoadley Shelley. Survivors include his wife - Joyce Shelley; two daughters - Elaine Reagan and Nycki Fernadez, both of Victoria; three sons - Billy Shelley and David Shelley, both of Victoria and Doug Shelley of Big Springs; three sisters - Helen Pippin, Jessie Belle Brawley, and Olga Jones, all of Whitney; nine grandchildren; and four great granchildren. Memorials may be made to: Cancer Treatment Center of America in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
