Bio

Son of Samuel Allen and Mary (Norvell/Norville) Allen . Edward's biography published in the History of Howard and Chariton Counties, 1883, St. Louis: National Historical Society Edward V. Allen, an energetic young farmer of the northern part of this county, is a native Missourian, born in Andrew County, November 4th, 1854. His father, Samuel Allen, came to this State from Kentucky when a young man, and was married here to Miss Mary Norville, also formerly of Kentucky. Of this union Edward V. was born, and when he was nine years old, in 1863, his parents moved to McDonough County, Illinois. But in 1871 they returned to this State and settled near Salisbury, in Chariton County, where the father is now engaged in farming. Edward V. as he grew up was given a good education in the common schools, and after he reached manhood engaged in farming on his own account. October 25, 1882, he was married to Miss Flora, an accomplished daughter of W. T. Dunn, Esq., of this county. Mrs. Allen was educated at the High School in Huntsville. In the spring of 1881, Mr. Allen bought the farm where he now lives. He has a place of 120 acres, neatly improved—a comfortable homestead. Mr. A. is a member of the Baptist church. His wife belongs to the M. E. denomination. Marriage and Children Edward Valentine Allen married Ida Flora Dunn on October 25, 1882. Ida Flora Dunn (b 11-7-1858, d 11-14-1893) is the daughter of William T. Dunn (b 4-20-1833, d 1-12-1907.) and Sarah Margaret (Wright) Dunn (b 3-6-1836, d 12-30-1918), of Salisbury, Missouri. William T. Dunn is the son of Robert Dunn (b 4-6-1803 Halifax, VA, d 4-21-1877 Prairie Hill, MO) and Jane Hart (b 3-6-1807 Kansas, d 11-14-1844 Prairie Hill, MO). Ida Flora (Dunn) Allen is buried at Richardson Cemetery, Salisbury Township, MO. Ida Flora and Edward settled on a farm north of Sumner, Missouri. They had four children. Children of Edward and Ida Flora (Dunn) Allen: -Leslie Olin Allen (married Margaret Frakes . They lived in Sumner, MO. Children: Elizabeth Pearl Allen (b 11-12-1914, d 5-20-2001) Married James Henry McCormick (b 6-2-1912, d 10-17-1999) Children: Donald Edward (Married Connie Doss-children,Leslie, David, Daniel) Gerald Warren (Married Margaret Vaughan, later Betty Folsom) James Allen (Married Rozanne Gladbach-children Theresa, Patricia, James) Robert Charles (Married Mary Ann Lynch-children Martha, John). -Edith Vera Allen (lived in Sumner, MO). -Everett William Allen (b 11-19-1888, d 6-21-1939) married Lois Welsh, the daughter of Wilmer Welsh, on 3-27-1920 and lived most of his life on a farm near Mendon, MO. He lived for a brief time near Pairie Hill following his marriage. He and Lois then settled on their farm near Mendon. Everett owned 60 acres of farmland (Land Section 25-56-20--Info from History of Chariton County Archive posted online by [email protected] ). He farmed all of his life. He was a member of Prairie Hill Methodist Episcopal Church. Everett and Lois's children are Roger Allen who lived in Sumner, Missouri and Ralph Eugene Allen who lived in Kansas City, Missouri. Roger married Lucinda Hicks. Ralph married Loula Garr -children: Marilyn Louise Allen, Marvin Eugene Allen, Gregory Robert Allen. Marilyn Louise married Vernon Rigdon-children: Lora Lynn. Marvin Eugene married Sue Dowell-children: Kristin Sue, Scott Eugene. -Florence Norvel (Allen) Humphfres (born 1892, d 1968 Santa Ana, Orange County, CA)(married Howard W. Humphfres (b 1893, d 1934 Santa Ana, Orange County, CA). Florence and Howard lived in Orange County, California. Children: James, Esther, Virginia. Edward Valentine's Second Marriage After wife Flora passed away, Edward Valentine Allen married Margaret (Ullum) Stewart, a widow. Margaret came to Missouri from Ohio after her first husband John Thomas Stewart passed away. Margaret is the daughter of Elyah Ullum and Eleanor (Mitchell) Ullum of Ohio. Margaret's children from her previous marriage came to Missouri to live near her and Edward. Margaret (Ullum) Stewart-Allen's Children - (Stepchildren of Edward V. Allen): Thomas O.
