Bio

Laura Jane White was the daughter of Margaret Jane Davis and George A. White. She was born in Wrightsboro, Gonzales Co, TX on 11 September 1860. The family moved to Louisiana about 1878 and made their home in Beauregard Parish. Laura married William Henry Hodges on 17 October 1879 in Old Imperial Calcasieu Parish. Laura and Henry were the parents of: Margaret Elizabeth Hodges (Austin) b: 20 Sep 1879, Susan Virginia Hodges b: 8 Feb 1882 (died as an infant), George Robert Hodges b: 7 Jun 1883, Samuel Henry Hodges b: 21 Mar 1886, Annie Isabel Hodges (Mitchell) b: 11 Jun 1888, Theodocia Josephine Hodges (Richey) b: 19 Dec 1890, Frank Augustus Hodges b: 23 Oct 1892, Maude Rena Hodges (Burnett) b: 3 Jul 1895, Jefferson Alton "Al" Hodges b: 22 Dec 1897, Edward Rayburn "Ray" Hodges b: 1 May 1900, Laura LeNora "Nora" Hodges (Burnett) b: 7 Sep 1902, Bertie Grace Hodges (Williams & Martin) b: 15 Jun 1906, Albert DeWar Hodges b: 17 Feb 1917 (adopted). Laura Jane White Hodges died at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday 11 August 1951 at the age of 90 in the home of her daughter, Bertie (Mrs. Walter Martin), Ragley, with whom she had lived for the last 15 years. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Sunday in the Bear Pentecostal Church with Rev. H.L. Bennett officiating. Hixson Funeral Home had charge of the burial in Magnolia Cemetery. Survivors included five daughters: Annie (Mrs. Sam Mitchell), Nora (Mrs. Adolph Burnett), Bertie (Mrs. Walter Martin), all of Longville, Theodocia (Mrs. Daniel Richey) of Ragley, and Maude (Mrs. Harvey Burnett) of DeQuincy; four sons: Frank and Al Hodges of Longville, A.D. Hodges of Ragley, and Ray Hodges of DeQuincy; two sisters: Josephine White Cole of Lake Charles and Martha White Akins of Jasper, TX; one half-sister: Celia White Como of Goose Creek, TX; 49 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. ___NOTE: A direct lineal female descendant participated in The Genographic Project. Testing indicates Laura was a member of the K1c1b mitochondrial DNA haplogroup, as was Oetzi--The Iceman.
