Albert DeWar "A.D." Hodges was born 14 February 1917, in Pineville, Rapides Parish, LA. He was the natural son of Frank and Mary Ratcliff. His father, Frank, died before A.D. was born. In order to provide for herself and her son, Mary worked in a traveling fair. Laura Jane Hodges and family attended the fair and she noticed that the infant needed attention. Laura Jane asked Mary if she could care for the child while Mary was working. Mary agreed and Laura Jane took A.D. home. A couple of years later, Mary came to retrieve her son. When A.D. realized what was happening, he bawled, "Wanna stay with my Maw." Mary agreed he was in the best of circumstances and on 16 August 1919, William Henry Hodges and Laura Jane White Hodges adopted A.D. in Longville, LA. A.D. married Gussie Leona "Lee" Burnett on 12 July 1941, in Oakdale, Allen Pa, LA. The couple subsequently moved to Ragley, Beauregard Pa, LA.
