Bio
Ollie Belle Abbott was the daughter of William Henry Abbott and Sarah Frances Bloodworth Abbott. She was born on December 3, 1882 in Sardis, Panola Co, MS. She married Chester Vernon Gates on December 5, 1914 in Dallas, Dallas Co, TX. Their only child, Lucille Clyde Gates, was born in Tulsa, Tulsa Co, OK on September 12, 1915. Ollie's sister, Clyde, lived with Ollie her entire life. When Ollie was about 70 years old, her daughter and two grandchildren also moved in with her. She was a superb homemaker and an outstanding cook. She was small, about 4'10", with a huge personality. Ollie had a way of making everyone she knew feel like they were the most important person in the world to her. Mrs. Gates, 95, of Dallas, TX died in Methodist Hospital on July 7, 1978 from arteriosclerotic heart disease and pyelonephritis. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and siblings: John Aurelius "Buddy" Abbott, Ella May Eavenson, Stella Elizabeth Meacham, and William Lloyd Abbott. She is survived by daughter, Lucille Gates Tabor; grandchildren David Gates Tabor and Susan Tabor Courtney, great grandchildren: Craig Robert Courtney and Colleen Suzanne Courtney; and sister Clyde Ernestine Abbott.
