Lucille Clyde Gates was the only child of Chester Vernon Gates and Ollie Belle Abbott. She was born on Sunday, Sep. 12, 1915 in Tulsa, Tulsa Co, OK. She was given the middle name, Clyde, in honor of her mother's sister, Clyde Ernestine Abbott. When Lucille was two years old, her family moved from Tulsa to Texas City, Galveston Co, TX. The family stayed in Texas City for about a year and then moved to the Oak Cliff section of Dallas, Dallas Co, TX and made that their home. Lucille attended the University of Texas at Austin. While there, she met Joseph Frank "Joe" Tabor, Jr. They were married on Oct. 11, 1941 in Dallas. The couple had two children, David Gates Tabor and Susan Tabor Courtney. They divorced in the early 1950's. The family moved in with Lucille's widowed mother, Ollie Gates, and her aunt, Clyde Abbott. Lucille was among the first 100 members of Tyler Street United Methodist Church. She retired from Mobil Oil Corp. in 1977, where she was a legal secretary in the office of the Patent Council. After retirement, she traveled extensively. Lucille was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She had a quick wit and great sense of humor. Mrs. Tabor, 98 years, 11 months, and nine days, died Thursday, Aug 21, 2014 at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Alliance from Pulmonary Fibrosis. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Susan Tabor Courtney. She is survived by her son, Dr. David G.
