From The Palmer Journal, January 23, 1964, page 4, transcribed by Linda Berney: John Semple Dies at Home Saturday - This community was saddened by the sudden and unexpected death of John Semple last Saturday forenoon at his home.... John Wesley Semple was born November 5, 1892 in Merrick County, Nebraska to Margaret and Daniel Semple. He died January 18, 1964 at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 14 days. He grew to manhood on the farm east of Palmer where he was born, and received his education in District 58, Merrick county. On March 6, 1920 he was married to Carrie Moberg in Central City, Nebraska. They settled on a farm east of Palmer, where they lived until 1956 when they moved into Palmer. He was a member of the Palmer Methodist church. He is survived by his wife Carrie of Palmer, a sister, Mrs. Bertha Eisher of Polk and 1 brother William Semple of Palmer, and a very large number of relatives and friends who mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 infant daughter and 2 sisters.
