From The Palmer Journal, March 14, 1929, page 1, transcribed by Linda Berney: D. J. Semple Laid To Rest Sunday - Danniel (sic) James Semple was born in Carroll Co. Ohio, Sept 9, 1859. He passed from this life March 7th, 1929 at his home near Palmer, Nebraska. He came to Iowa with his parents when three years of age. He was married March 22, 1881 to Margaret J. Davis, and in the fall of 1884 they came to Nebraska, and homesteaded near Palmer where they have since resided. Five children were born into this home, Mrs. Pearl Tschudy of Archer, William C. Semple of Palmer, Mrs. Bertha Vandegrift of St. Paul, Leila of Des Moines, who died three years ago, and John Wesley Semple of Palmer. One sister is living, Mrs. Etta Harold, of Harrisonville, Mo., who was with her brother during his last illness. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, March 10, at the Methodist Episcopal Church of Palmer, Nebr., by the pastor, E. H. Tipton. Interment at Rose Hill cemetery. It had been the writer's good fortune to know the deceased for more than a quarter of a century and we esteemed him very highly. To man, woman, or child, saint or sinner, he always extended a kindly greeting that lent a ray of light to brighten their pathway on the journey of life. We shall miss his kindly smile and pleasant greeting.
