According to family stories, Sarah died enroute to Oklahoma. The family was going to participate in the Oklahoma land rush and were traveling via covered wagon from Cloud County, Kansas to Oklahoma. When Sarah died, the family returned to Cloud County via train and Sarah was buried in the Glasco Cemetery. Obituary printed in the Glasco Sun, May 15, 1908, page 2: Obituary of Mrs. Jas. Pilcher Sarah R. Courtney was born near Morgantown, West Va., Jan. 1, 1857, and died near Ballard, Okla., May 8, 1908. She came to Ill. with her parents in 1865, then to Cloud County, Kansas, in 1872, where she remained until March 18, 1908. She married James H. Pilcher in Oct. 1877. To this union were born ten children, two girls and 8 boys, all of whom are living. Besides the husband and children she leaves 6 grandchildren, an aged mother, four sisters and four brothers to mourn her loss. She professed religion and joined the M.E. church at the age of 20. Her health failed some twenty years ago, and the suffering occasioned by this illness was always born (sic) with the highest Christian fortitude. She died at her home in Oklahoma, and the remains were brought here, Monday evening, for interment in the Glasco cemetery. Funeral services were held in the M.E. church, with Rev. J.T. Bates officiating, at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, the 12th.
