Bio

Services were held Monday, March 3 at the Methodist church in Westerville at 2:30 p.m. for Hershel Allen Sherbeck. He was the son of Axel and Mary Sherbeck and was born near Bedford, IA., on August 4, 1882. He passed away at the St. Francis hospital in Grand Island Feb. 24 at the age of 75. He was married to Etta Crist at Loup City on Jan. 20, 1909. Seven children were born to this union. When a small boy, he traveled with his parents in a covered wagon to the Westerville community where he lived the most of his life. He homesteaded six years on the Fort Niobrara military reservation in 1914 through 1920. He was a member of the Minnekadusa lodge 192 AF & AM of Valentine. He lived a full life accepting patiently the trials along the way. His honest dealings and fair play made him many lasting friends. He will be missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by three infant daughters, his parents, two brothers, Irvin and Clarence; one sister, Florence; and one grandson, Glenn Armstrong. He is survived by two sons, Sherman of Hillsboro, Ore and Richard of Buxton, Ore; two daughters, Bernice Armstrong of Arcadia and Marguerite Brong of Monroe, IA.; eleven grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Verna Whitman of Arcadia, Mrs. Alice Giddens of Ansley, and Mrs. Prudy Hunt of Ord; and many other relatives and friends. Miss Sherry Parks, was the pianist and accompanied Mrs. Wilber Gard and Mrs. Carl Johnson who sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Abide With Me." Pallbearers were Melvin Moore, Sidney Vose, John Peterson, Louis Holeman, Ralph Porter and Edgar Slingsby. Concluding services were by the Gauge Lodge AF & AM No. 208 of Arcadia at the Lee Park cemetery. Arrangements were by Hastings-Pearson Mortuary of Ord.
