Daugher of Hershel & Aretta "Etta" (Crist) Sherbeck. Married to Floyd M. Armstrong on 14 Dec 1933 at the Custer County Court House at Broken Bow, NE. The Grand Island Independent 29 June 2003 ARCADIA-Bernice Armstrong, 89, of Arcadia died Thursday, June 23, 2003, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Calvary Baptist Church in Arcadia. The Revs. Chuck Meyers and Wayne Rouse will officiate. Burial will be in the Arcadia City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ord Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Armstrong was born Jan. 29, 1914, to Hershel and Etta (Crist) Sherbeck on the Clear Creek homestead of her grandparents, Axel and Mary (Holeman) Sherbeck, at Westerville. Survivors of the immediate family include a son and daughter-in-law, Melvin and Margaret Armstrong of Bennet, and two daughters and son-in-laws, Janice and Douglas Emery of Arcadia and Linda and Delbert John of Argyle, Texas. Other survivors include six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, three step grandchildren, six stepgreat-children, along with several nieces and nephews. Bernice attended the Myrtle School District through the 8th grade and graduated from the Arcadia High School in 1933. She was the loving and faithful wife to her husband, Floyd M. Armstrong, for 53 years. They were married Dec. 14, 1933, at the Custer County Court House in Broken Bow. They farmed west of Arcadia the first years of their marriage and then moved to Hillsboro, Ore. in 1941. They moved back to the family farm in December 1950. They spent the next 25 years years on the family farm before retiring in 1974 and then moved into Arcadia. Mr. Armstrong passed away Dec. 28, 1986. She was still living in their home in Arcadia until September 2002, when she was no longer able to live alone. She moved into Off Broadway in Broken Bow, but her health deteriorated rapidly and she was moved to Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow, where she passed away. Bernice was a faithful member of the Hillsboro Christian Church, Hillsboro, Ore., and the Homebuilders Class. She was member of the Liberty Christian Church, The Women's Mission Circle and the Liberty Belles Extension Club in the Clear Creek area. For the past 49 years she has been a member of the Calvary Baptist Church at Arcadia, where she was Sunday School secretary for 25 years and a member of the Women's Mission Circle. She was also a member of the Arcadia Extension Club and the Arcadia Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd; a son, Glenn; two brothers, Richard and Sherman Sherbeck; four sisters, Eunice Sherbeck in childhood, Marguerite Brong, and twin sisters in infancy, and one stepgreat-grandchild, Nathan Antholz. Memorials are suggested to the Arcadia Rescue Unit or the Calvary Baptist Church Missions.
