Florence Sherbeck youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Axel Sherbeck was born near Westerville, Nebr., Sept. 9, 1897 and died Dec. 8, 1918 at the age of twenty-one years and three months. She graduated from the Broken Bow Business College and taught two years in Custer county schools. She was united in marriage to Joseph F. Hickenbottom Nov. 7, 1917 and shortly after moved to the Hickenbottom farm, where they began the joy of home-building. A baby daughter came to brighten their home a few days prior to the sad and untimely death of the young mother, which has cast such a gloom over the entire community. Four years ago she was converted in the Methodist Episcopal church and lived a Christian life unto the end. A loving disposition and her bright and winning ways made her a favorite among all her associates. The cause of her death was pneumonia which followed influenza. Her husband was ill with influenza and unable to attend the funeral which was held at their home in the open air conducted by Rev. Chas. Shook, of Ansley, interment in Lee Park cemetery. The pall bearers were, John Pester, Fred Crawford, Albert Sherbeck, Shorty Louden, Willie Wolford, Guy Cone. Besides a loving husband, the baby daughter and her parents, she leaves to mourn her loss, two brothers and three sisters: Hershel Sherbeck, of Valentine, Nebr.; Irvin Sherbeck, Mrs. John Hyatt, Mrs. Ira Giddings and Mrs. Fred Hunt all of this vicinity.
