Emil Donald Frank was born on 11 October 1922, in Henryville Township, Renville County, Minnesota, to Michael William and Anna Gertrude Serbus Frank. He attended rural schools and assisted with the work on the family farm. Emil Donald never married. He had three brothers and four sisters. In the late afternoon, of Thursday, 16 March 1944, Emil left the house at 5:50 p.m., to do a little hunting in the grove near the farm buildings. He got only a short distance in the grove when he stumbled on a wire that was partly covered with snow. His gun discharged. The full impact of the shell struck the upper part of his head. He died instantly. Emil Frank, died at the age of 21, on 16 March 1944, on a farm nine miles southwest of Olivia, Renville County, Minnesota. He was survived by his mother; sisters, Rose (Joseph) Goblish of Wabasso, Helen (Donald) Ridl of Renville, and Marie and Martha at home; and two brothers, Valerian and David, both lived at home. His father died in December 1932 and his brother, George, died at the age of four, in 1918. His funeral service was held on Monday morning, 20 March 1944, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bechyn. The Reverend Father Slechta officiated. Pallbearers were all cousins of the deceased. They were James, Edward, and Stanley Frank, John and Ernest Serbus, and Henry Goblish. Emil was buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Bechyn, Renville County, Minnesota.
