Mary Jo Marek, 79, of West, passed away Friday, April 23, 2010, in Waco. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday, at Gerald Cemetery near Leroy, with the Rev. Joel Boesche officiating. The family will receive visitors 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home. Mary Jo was born in West, Texas, to the late Adolph Peter and Frances (Cvikel) Matus, Sr. She attended schools in Elm Mott. On October 25, 1947 she was united in marriage to George A. Marek in Tours. Mary Jo was a hair dresser and owned and operated Mary's Beauty Shop in West and Mart for over 40 years until her retirement in 1997. She enjoyed yard work, visiting with people, and especially loved spending time with her granddaughter. Mary Jo was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bellmead and the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #54 in West. She was preceded in death by her husband on October 7, 1999; and three sisters, Frances Wills, Hattie Griffin, and Louise Johnson. Survivors include daughter, Joyce Locke and husband, Louis, Jr., of West; son, Stephen "Stevie" Marek and wife, Carolyn, of West; brother, A. P. Matus, Jr. and wife, Lil, of West; sisters, Elizabeth Hejl, of Ross and Betty Pareya, of West; granddaughter, Amanda Marek, of West; very special friends Jayne Good, of Mart and Michael Heath Perry, of West; her cat, Kida; and many nieces nephews, other relatives and friends.
