Bio

Stephen "Stevie" George Marek, age 59, of West, passed away late Sunday evening, January 26, 2020 at Providence Health Center in Waco. Private family memorial services will be held with Pastor Mitch Bynum officiating. Burial at Gerald Cemetery. Steve was born August 6, 1960 in Hillsboro, the son of George and Mary Jo (Matus) Marek. He attended school in West and was a 1979 graduate of Mart High School. Steve worked as a correctional officer in McLennan County for 20 years, was a bus driver for the West, Connally and Hillsboro Independent School Districts and was a Special Ed Teachers Aide at LaVega. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed working in the fields, tending to crops, and driving his farm equipment. Steve loved spending time with family and friends. He was a member of SPJST Lodge #54 in West. Steve is preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandparents, August and Mary Marek; and maternal grandparents, A. P. and Frances Matus. Survivors include his daughter, Amanda Gail Marek of West; a sister, Joyce Locke and husband Louis of West; and numerous other relatives and friends.
