Bio

Elvira Sunderhuse Polasek, 92, of Wallis, Texas, went home to the Lord on Monday, June 20, 2022, in Eagle Lake, Texas. Elvira was born on July 9, 1929 at her parent's farm house in Brenham, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Willie and Tekla Sunderhuse. At an early age they moved to the Cottonwood Area of Rosenberg, Texas. There she attended The Cottonwood School thru 8th grade and then went to High School in Beasley until the 10th grade where she quit to help out on the family farm which included picking cotton in the fields, help raise chickens and hogs. She would then help them butcher the hogs and make sausage. On March 13, 1972, Elvira donated one of her kidneys to her brother Clifford. It was the first successful kidney transplant in the state of Texas. It was performed at Breckenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas; the surgery was performed by Dr. Jack Moncrief and Dr. Jonathan Dechard. On July 19, 1974, she married the love of her life, Leonard Polasek, in Sealy at the Justice of the Peace Office. Elvira then made her home in Wallis, Texas until 2021. Elvira helped Leonard with his cattle, went on many trail rides with him, and she raised numerous beagle and rat terrier puppies. She also had a huge garden. Elvira is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard; sons-in-law, Charlie Kubes and Tom Atkins; 5 brothers; and 2 sisters. Elvira is survived by her children, Lynette Atkins of Rosenberg, Ronald Tielke of New Ulm, Nancy Beran and husband, Adolph, of Rosenberg, Randy Tielke of Rosenberg, Kurtis Tielke and wife, Kim, of East Bernard; step-daughters, Robin Reich and husband, Jeff, of Wallis, Roxane Zotyka and husband, Ladgie, of Wallis; 8 grandchildren, Kristy Kubes of Houston, Jeff Kubes and wife, Sarah, of Seguin, Nathan Kubes and friend, Charlene Viktorin, of El Campo, Amanda Miller and husband, Mike, of Durham, North Carolina, Jennifer Henderson and husband, Rick, of Katy, Nick Beran and wife, Kayla, of Richmond, Nicole Murphy and husband, Joey, of Livingston, Justin Tielke and wife, Meagan, of Sealy; 10 great-grandchildren, Ella, Grayson, and Chloe Kubes, Kaitlyn, Aidan and Aubrey Miller, Hailey Pryor, Weston Beran, Hunter and Ryder Murphy; and one great-child on the way, Colson Tielke. Elvira is also survived by her sisters, Kathleen Kovarek of Port Lavaca, Willie Mae Nesvadba and husband, Eugene, of Rosenberg. Visitation will be held Monday, June 27, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Knesek Funeral Home, 122 N. First Street Wallis, Texas 77485. The funeral will also be held at Knesek Funeral Home in Wallis on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at 10 am. Pallbearers will be Jeff Kubes, Nathan Kubes, Nick Beran, Rick Henderson, Joey Murphy, and Justin Tielke.
