Joseph Janes, Terry, Drowns Saturday In Lake Providence Boating Accident Joseph Janes, 55, of Terry drowned Saturday afternoon about 4 o'clock in Lake Providence in East Carroll parish after his boat overturned. Funeral services for the drowning victim were held from Sacred Heart church in Oak Grove Tuesday morning at 10. o'clock. Mr. Janes' body was not recovered from the lake until Sunday afternoon at 5:30. Dragging operations began Saturday afternoon following the accident and continued into the night but proved unsuccessful. The search for the body was resumed the next morning and continued throughout the day. The body was recovered on a line by Woody Costello, Oak Grove commercial fisherman, and other parish men assisting with the search. The accident occurred in the northern portion of the lake near the center, and the body was recovered from about 15 feet of water. A verdict of death by accidental drowning was returned by the East Carroll parish coroner immediately after the body was recovered. Interment was in the Oak Grove cemetery under the direction of Catron-Gay Funeral home. Survivors include his wife, Mildred; four daughters, Mrs. Joephine Spaulding, Houston, Texas; Mrs. Mary Rose Maxwell, Oak Grove; Mrs. Angela Pippens, Oak Grove; Mrs. Joy Gunter, Oak Grove; a son, John W., of Terry: three brothers, Johnny, Tony and Frank, all of Terry; A sister, Mrs Frances Costello, of Concord, and his mother, Mrs Angela Janes, Oak Grove, La.
