Bio

Joe Smajstrla, 74, a lifelong West resident, died Saturday in a West hospital. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 4 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Rev. George Doskocil as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. Smajstrla operated West Drug Store and Custard King for several years and was a partner in Art Treasures. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and KJT Society No. 31. Survivors include a brother, Charles Smajstrla of West; and a sister, Mrs. Tom (Wilma) Scanio of Waco. Kotch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were: Robert Neill, Louis Nemec, Jr., Thomas Gerik, Ed Klaus, Jr., Dr. David Kostohryz, Frank Kubacak, Phillip Gerik and Charles Kubacak, Jr. The West News, West, Texas, Vol 89, No 25, Ed 1 Thursday, June 21, 1979 - Pg 8 Contributor: Andrea Berger Walston
