West Businessman Is Killed By Employee J.R. Polasek Dies In Waco Hospital Following Shooting Henry Peters Is Being Held On Murder Charge J.R. Polasek, 65, prominent West businessman, was shot and fatally wounded by Henry Peters, an employee, shortly before 2:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. The shooting occurred here at the Polasek Hardware Company. According to Justice of the Peace Louis Garrison, who investigated, Peters had been having some financial difficulties with the hardware firm. He is alleged to have entered the establishment about 1:45 p.m., Wednesday, pulled a .38 calibre pistol from his pocket and fired twice at his employer. One of the shots was high and missed its intended victim, but the second struck Mr. Polasek in the back, ranging downward into the abdomen. He was taken to the Providence sanitarium, Waco, where he died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday. Peters was arrested at his home immediately after the shooting by constable Joe Stanislav. He is being held in the McLennan county jail, murder charges having been filed against him. The entire citizenship of this city was deeply shocked by the tragedy, and extreme excitement reigned. Apparently, nothing had occurred beforehand to indicate serious trouble at the local business. Funeral Services Saturday Funeral services for Mr. Polasek will be held here at the Church of the Assumption at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Rev. E.J. Polcak officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery, Aderhold in charge. All business houses of the city will be closed during the funeral hour. Deceased had been a resident of this community for the past 32 years. A native Texas, he was reared in Fayette county, moving to West in 1909 where he established a tin shop and hardware business. Since that time he served this section as a progressive businessman and esteemed citizen, devoting much time to civic and church affairs. Mr. Polasek was a leader in the West Catholic Church and a member of the K.J.T. Lodge. Surviving are his widow; one son, Joe Polasek, Jr., of Refugio; three daughters, Mrs. Rose Holub, Mrs. John Nemecek and Mrs. E.L. Barton, all of West. The entire citizenship of West and surrounding territory deeply sympathize with the survivors in their time of sorrow.
