John Matus, 81, Dies; Rites Held Wednesday John Matus, 81, of West died at 9:30 p.m. Monday in a Hillsboro hospital. Requiem Mass was celebrated at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church of Assumption at West. The Rev. George Doskocil officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Kotch Funeral Home. Mr. Matus was born in Czechoslovakia, but moved to the United States with his family at an early age. They settled near West. He was a farmer and he also had worked in a machine shop in Dallas for 10 years. He moved back to West in 1955, at which time he retired. Mr. Matus was a member of St. Mary's Church and KJT Lodge 31 of West. He received a 50-year pin from the lodge about three years ago. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Janie Matus of West; two sons, John Matus of Dallas and Edward Matus of West; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Skopik and Miss Josephine Matus of Dallas and Mrs. Rosie Skopik of Bellmead; a brother, Frank Matus of Wharton; two sisters, Mrs. Randolph Macicek, and Mrs. Charlie Hubik, both of West; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were: Louis Skopik, Waco' Edward Matus, West; Ronnie Matus and Bob Wright, Dallas; Louis Pekar, Amarillo; and Joe Yuravich, LaPlace, Louisiana.
