Vince Gerik Passes Away on Sept. 11 Mr. Vince Gerik, a pioneer citizen of West, passed away on September 11, 1945. Mr. Gerik was born in Moravia on April 10, 1871, but hut has lived in the West Community for 50 years. He was 74 years old at the time of his death. Mr. Gerik suffered a stroke several months ago. He died in the Providence Hospital in Waco. Mr. Gerik was the founder of the Gerik's Orchestra in West. This orchestra was quite well known in this community for a great many years. Mr. Gerik celebrated 50 years as a musician in 1938. The OK Orchestra was founded by him. Funeral services were held at the Aderhold Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. and at the Catholic Church at 9:30 A.M. Thursday, September 13, 1945. The Rosary was said at 8:30 P.M. on Wednesday. Father Polchak officiated. Interment was at the Catholic Cemetery. Mr. Gerik is survived by his wife, Mrs. Anna Gerik, six daughters, Mrs. Adell Poehls of Lorena, Mrs. Agnes Koppa and Mrs. Anna Yates of Waco, and Mrs. Mary Dvorak, Mrs. Mollie Frazier, and Mrs. Margaret Scott of West; and five sons, Max, Vinc, Rudolph, and Adolph Gerik, all of West, and John of Dallas. The Pallbearers were: John V. Hutyra, Oscar Schofield, Louis Hutyra, John J. Bezdek, Jim Bezdek and O.J. Pustejovsky. The West News, West, Texas, Volume 56.
