Bio

Alfons J. Cinek died peacefully with his family present early Monday, August 1, 2005, at St. Catherine's Center in Waco. Visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3, at Kotch Funeral Home in West. Rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 4, followed immediately by funeral services at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Burial will follow. He was born August 17, 1912, one of 10 children of Joseph P. Cinek and Bertha Grossman. At age 30 he was called upon to fight for freedom and came to the aid of his country. He fought courageously, beginning with the D-Day invasion, later in England, France, Belgium, and Germany. At war's end, his unit was among those that put an end to the horrors that were taking place in the concentration camps...a memory that forever remained with him. While serving with the 926th Signal Battalion on the European Front, he earned five battle stars. When the war ended, he returned to West to marry his longtime sweetheart, Rosalie Girard, on January 23, 1945. They loved and cherished each other for 37 years until her death in 1983. Alfons loved the land and farmed for years before working with the road and bridge crew of McLennan County, Precinct 3. He retired in 1977. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. He was also a member of the KJT, and VFW Post 4819. Preceding him to his eternal reward were his parents, J.P. and Bertha; his beloved sweetheart Rosalie; his brothers Raymond and Henry; sisters, Hattie Sulak, Vlasta Rejcek, Wilma Neckar, and Ida Dolezal. Those left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Ervin and Robert of West; sister, Irene Pustejovsky and husband Johnny of Arlington; children, daughters, Veronica Houston and husband Tony of Midlothian and Patricia Bezdek and her husband Michael, of Dallas; Sons, Alfons Jr. and Frank and his wife Janette of West; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Thanks to Father Ed and Father Patrick, the workers and nurses at St. Catherine's Center, and all family and friends for their care and support during his later years.
