Anton Slovak, Pioneer Settler Of West, Dies Anton Slovak, age 77, and a resident of this community for 42 years, died at his home near West at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, September 20th. Mr. Slovak by virtue of his long residence here and his friendly nature had a host of friends throughout this section of the state and all mourn his passing. Deceased was born in Czecho-Slovakia on June 13, 1855, coming to this country at the age of 26. He had been a citizen of the United States for 51 years, 42 of which had been spent in McLennan County. He was a prominent farmer of this section. Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Thursday, September 22nd, from the Church of the Assumption with Rev. E.J. Polcak in charge. Interment was at the Catholic Cemetery with a large number of friends and acquaintances present. Survivors are six daughters, Mrs. Steve Neckar of Elk, Mrs. A.C. Pechacek of Crowell, Mrs. Lee Kyselka of Axtell, Mrs. Ed Chada of Los Angeles, California, Mrs. Henry Kabella of Temple and Miss Janie Slovak of this city; six sons, Joe of Rosenberg, Ed of Elm Mott, Anton of Crowell, Louis of Hillsboro, John of Elk, Raymond of West.
