Jacob F. Petr, a highly respected resident of Lawrence, passed away at his home Thursday evening, Sept. 23 at 7:45 o'clock. His death came as a distinct shock to his family and friends as he seemed to be always in good health. Wednesday morning, he worked in his garden digging potatoes when he suffered a heart attack. From then on his health failed quickly. The deceased was born June 28, 1880 in Czechoslovakia and departed this life Sept. 23, 1948 at the age of 68 years, 8 mos., 26 days. At the age of 4 years he in company of his parents and family came to the United States. He was united in marriage to Anna Beran Jan. 7, 1908 at St. Martin's Church, Louchy. To this union were born three children, Thomas of Lawrence, Mrs. Anna Klima of Elsie and Henry of Wauneta. His wife preceded him in death, having passed in July, 1946. Besides his children he is survived by nine grandchildren, Marion, Myron, Robert, Marilyn, and Rose Marie Petr, Lawrence, Thomas, Joseph and Edward Klima of Elsie and Rita Marie Petr, Wayneta. Also two brothers John of Deweese and Frank of Lawrence. Two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Sekora, Fairfield, and Mrs. Frank Drudik, Deweese. Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart church Monday, Sept. 27 at 9 o'clock. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. F. J. Kopecky was celebrant of the Requiem High Mass and officiated at the graveside services at Sacred Heart Cemetery. The pallbearers were Frank Tabor, Albert Janda, Anton Hubl, Joe Kotinek, Albert Kohmetscher and Albert Hofstetter. Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the final rites were Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Masek, Western; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Masek and children, Raymond; Frank Tabor, Culbertson; Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Svoboda and family, Grand Island; Mr. and Mrs. Clem Svoboda, Hastings; Mr. and Mrs. John Vlasin and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vlasin, Crete.
