WEST - Ida (Edith) Jares, a West homemaker, died Thursday at a Waco hospital. She was 74. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery near West. A rosary will be 7 p.m. today at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Ed Karasek officiating. Mrs. Jares was born Aug. 8, 1919, in West. She married Fred F. Jares on June 5, 1937, in West; he died June 25, 1989. She had worked at the West Textile Mill for several years. She was a life-long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. A son, Donald F. Jares, died May 11, 1983. Survivors include two sons, Melvin Jares of Elm Mott and Larry Jares of West, two brothers, Bill Detterman of West and Herbert Detterman of Robinson; four sisters, Josephine Berger of Waco, Leona Maler of Whitney, Della Bartosh of Mesquite and Mildred Perkins of Pasadena; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Rev. Edward J. Polcak performed the ceremony. A wedding dinner was served at the home of the bride's parents afterwards. Her mother, Mary Martha (Miller) Detterman died at this home on April 3, 1963. Edith spent many hours nursing and sitting with her son, Don, in 1983, when he was ill. Edith was instrumental in organizing the annual Detterman-Miller-Weinberger Reunion, and the first annual reunion was held in June of 1983. Previous family reunions, of a smaller scale, had been held by immediate family members at their homes. Edith loved to sew and she made many of the Czech costumes for the West Fest Celebration held annually in West. Edith and Fritz last lived at 108 S. Marable, West, McLennan Co., Texas.
