Leona Maler - Obituary (September 16, 1925 - July 23, 2021) Leona Maler, age 95, of West, passed away early Friday morning, July 23, 2021 at her residence. She was surrounded by those who loved and adored her most as she walked into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A rosary will be recited 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 26, 2021 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ed Karasek officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Born September 16, 1925 in West, Leona was the 13th of 16 children born to Martin and Mary (Miller) Detterman. She attended St. Mary's School in West. On October 28, 1944 she was united in marriage to Freddie Reichelt. Freddie passed from a heart attack on July 28, 1963 while fighting a fire for the West Volunteer Fire Department. Leona, left to raise three daughters, one who was less than two years old, was fortunate to find who she considered to be the love of her life, Kenneth Maler, and they were wed on November 12, 1967. Leona was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Church of the Assumption. She was also a member of the SPJST Lodge #6 in Cottonwood, West Longhorn Club and West Fair and Rodeo Association. Leona was a talented seamstress, quilt maker, homemaker and a devoted mother and grandmother. She also worked for the Cotton Mill and Lorch Manufacturing, both in West. In their younger years, she and Ken enjoyed going on trail rides, fishing and hosting family fish fries, so much so that they built a house on Lake Whitney and lived there many years before returning to West to be near family. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, casino trips and beating her girls in Skip-Bo. Leona is also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bill Detterman, Fred Detterman, Herbert Detterman, Raymond Detterman, Edmund Detterman, and Arthur Detterman; and sisters, Josie Berger, Estelle Goates, Lou Cox, Frances Schutza, Edith Jares, Carrie Detterman, and Bernice Detterman. Survivors include her beloved husband of 53 years, Kenneth Maler of West; three daughters, Lana Green and husband Woody of West, Debbie Sullivan and husband Mike of Peoria, and Carla Payne and husband Robby of West; her granddaughter, Tina Green of West; two sisters, Della Bartosh and Mildred Perkins; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Volunteer Ambulance Association or West Volunteer Fire Department. Aderhold Funeral Home, West, Texas website
